Interesting events unfolded this week with students.
First, a student was seen putting up “It’s Okay to be White” posters on lockers in the hallways.
The posters were taken down and the student was dealt with appropriately. A coworker reported the student to the office. I witnessed the exchange between her and the student as she removed the posters. She was highly offended.
These posters are being pushed by 4Chan as a trolling of the Left. They are not Neo-Nazi or White Supremacist or any of those things. They are looking for a reaction. And they are getting it!
My personal opinion is that the posters are divisive and have no place in a school.
I then witnessed another student with “It’s Okay to Punch a Nazi” written on her jean jacket. I told the teacher who had removed the posters about the jacket.
You would think that if someone is offended by the posters, they would be offended by the jacket.
But, no. I was told, “I think it’s okay to punch someone who advocates genocide.”
Seriously? What’s the difference between “It’s okay to be white” and “It’s okay to punch a Nazi”?
Let’s break it down.
“It’s okay to be white” is seen as promoting white supremacy and racism. “It’s okay to punch a Nazi” is seen as fighting fascism and racism.
Throw the flag! Nazi is now code for “anyone who I don’t agree with.” Another way to view it is Nazis are Trump voters. Admit it.
I reported the student to the office and they handled it appropriately.
The words “white supremacy,” “racism,” and “Nazi” are now so overused — and used inappropriately — that they have no real meaning.
At one time, if you called me a Nazi I would have been offended. Now I just want to roll my eyes.
In an attempt to paint the right as “baaaaaddddd” words have been watered down so they have no real emotional impact.
